Thursday May 23rd Story Swap!

Here’s the Story will be hosting a Story Swap on may 23rd at Roman Susan Art Gallery.

Roman Susan is located at 1224 West Loyola Avenue.

We will be there from 7-9.

We hope to see a lot of journiers there to share stories about the race. I have a couple I’m really looking forward too sharing with people.

The way the evening will work is that we will sit down share some pizza, (feel free to bring food, wine or drinks,) take in the art and if anyone has a story to tell, we’ll listen. Simple as that.

We will be picking up 2 extra large pizzas and any Journey volunteers who show up get first dibs.

Thanks so much everyone who ran with us tonight, it was a real blast. Hope to see a bunch of you again if not on the 23rd than perhaps at another Here’s the Story NFP event or our Sept. 14th Journey.

Congratulations and thank you to Polly Yukevich!

One of the cool things about Here’s the Story is that the audience gets a crack at being art director. You decide who features.

This month, it seems you think it might be pretty cool to have a musical act hit the stage next month. (No pressure, Polly!)

You can follow Polly on twitter, like we do, she’s @PollyYuke. And here is her website: http://yukesukes.com/

There were a lot of wonderful tellers and features and some fantastic hosting from Janna Sobel.

We look forward to seeing you all next month at Theater Wit. And through out this month at all the other great shows around town. Tell us your favorites in the comments!

Thanks to Kelli Honeysweet who will be returning May 5th to feature with us again!

Thanks so much Kelli Honeysweet! We look forward to seeing you again May 5th.

What an amazing turn out! So many new faces. So many stalwart friends.

I’m going to come out and say it, at about 7:45 I thought, “There is no way we are going to fill this place.” I was super duper wrong.

To all the people standing in the bleachers, thank you soooo much! I wish we could have put more seats down but the fire marshal came by Stage773 and was like, 148 seats and no more! You were troopers galore.

One of the things I love about Here’s the Story is how all of you hold up the tellers. How attentively you actively listen. Seasoned professionals. Friends. Strangers. They all get the same amount of respect and attention.

Congratulations and thanks sent to Jesse! We look forward to seeing you April 7th!

Another successful show. If I don’t say so myself. Love and food and camaraderie, and hard words, and easy words, and music and a super hero or two. Sort of a perfect mix! Perhaps a magical potion of words and listening, if one will.

Audrey Fegel Accepts the Invitation to Return!

Last night’s show was one of my all time favorites. Morals, ramblings, themes, craft, spontaneous-extemporaneous, and a not too shabby hosting job from your two stalwart ne’er do wells. (Paradox or contradiction?) If I don’t say so myself–this evening had it all.

It was a full crowd and a ton of great dishes were brought. Our first storyteller, Duo, brought in some amazing and lauded cupcakes, and there were a number of fantastic entrees as well. Thank you to everyone who came, paid, brought food, told stories, and listened last night.

I like to move around as the night progresses and so I picked up some food after Deanna Moffitt’s story and settled in the aisle to listen to Audrey Fegel. She commanded the stage, and as the lights bared down on her we were transported to Forever XXI where she was attacked by an over active imagination, attacked by knowing too much. She threw her bags to the ground, she dropped to her knees, and when everyone rushed to her aid, she realized, she wasn’t actually having a seizure at all.

All this month Audrey can be seen in As You Like it at the (re)discover theater. And next month, you can see her featuring for us at Here’s the Story!

Lisa Scott will be a feature next month! Thanks so much!

What a great show. The word of the night seemed to be, diverse.

The evening opened up with a great story from Ken Brezinsky about fracking that reminded me of David Holmes’ Fracking Song.

And the night continued on to talk about religion, mothers, missing fathers, lost loves, and games of scrabble. It was a fun night, we got to see Amanda Rountree transform into a typical Dick’s shopper. I think that’s likely to be my biggest belly laugh of the year.

It was a really full crowd for an early January. We had a stellar points turn out too, super-crazy thanks to the thirty-three who dropped your email on us. If you missed the email sign up, there is a place to do it in the sidebar to the right.

Thanks and Congratulations go out to Scott Whitehair

Scott will be invited back to feature again! Be sure to check out his other work through out the month, be it, This Much is True, Do Not Submit, Story Lab, or one of the places he’ll be featuring around town.

He’s also doing a special show out in NY next weekend. All of his shows as well as other awesome Chicago live lit shows can be found on our calendar. (This calendar was originally set up by Aria Alexander Manifold and is maintained by a number of people.)

So thanks to everyone who dropped points on all the tellers who told this year. In Nov. we had more sheets turned in than ever before and we hope a lot of you get to make it back for our big holiday show coming up.
